CMMI’s new approach focuses on promoting the prevention of illness and helping patients manage chronic conditions; using data and technology to help beneficiaries reach their health goals; and ensuring independent and rural providers can participant in payment models to support competition and choice for healthcare services. New model designs could require all alternative payment models to involve downside risk, pushing more beneficiaries into arrangements with financial risk for providers.

UnitedHealth Under Criminal Probe for Possible Medicare Fraud, WSJ Reports

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is carrying out a criminal investigation into UnitedHealth Group for possible Medicare fraud. UnitedHealth (UNH) said it had not been notified by the DOJ about the "supposed criminal investigation reported," and the company stood by "the integrity of our Medicare Advantage program." The stock plunged over 15% Thursday, May 14th.
