Soo-Young Lee is an accomplished data and application engineer with more than 15 years of experience spanning the full data, application and visualization lifecycle. He specializes in engineering artificial intelligence (AI) workflows, enterprise data architecture, automation, extract-transform-load (ETL) processes and product development for large-scale systems.
At Wakely Consulting Group, an HMA Company, Soo-Young focuses on data engineering, ETL automation and innovative product development to drive efficiency and actionable insights for clients across diverse industries.
Before joining Wakely, Soo-Young served as manager of the Data Pod at Optum Health and UnitedHealthcare, where he led a team of 12 developers and analysts. His work included migrating critical reporting systems from Netezza to Snowflake, creating Python-based cloud ETL automation, and overseeing cost-effective infrastructure strategies. He also served as actuarial software development manager, spearheading front-end and back-end enhancements for the StepWise Actuarial Platform with JavaScript, Python and SQL, and as director of analytics, focusing on complex business logic for Medicare and retirement programs.
In addition to his corporate experience, Soo-Young has served as an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of Minnesota since 2015. He has developed and taught graduate-level courses on managing electronic health information and undergraduate courses in actuarial mathematics.
Soo-Young earned a master’s degree in financial mathematics and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, both from the University of Minnesota. He is fluent in multiple technical languages and tools, including Python, JavaScript, SQL, databases and modern visualization frameworks such as Plotly.
Outside of work, Soo-Young enjoys spending time with loved ones, walking his corgis, playing Magic: The Gathering, and working on personal programming projects.
