Marni Epstein is a dedicated data scientist who works at the intersection of data analytics, public health, and Medicaid policy.

At Wakely Consulting Group, an HMA Company, she works with Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS) data to uncover trends in Medicaid utilization, with a focus on behavioral health. She also works with Medicaid organizations on projects such as an evaluation of an intervention for individuals with substance use disorders and more general financial modeling.

Before joining Wakely, Marni was a performance and data analyst in Salt Lake County’s Human Services Department. She developed key performance indicator dashboards to measure programmatic outcomes and conducted program evaluations for divisions such as the Health Department, Behavioral Health, and Criminal Justice Services. Before that, Marni spent over five years researching medications to treat opioid use disorder at the Urban Institute, focusing on treatment receipt, utilization and spending. She also worked with Medicaid prescription drug data, and large Medicaid claims data to demonstrate trends in service utilization, spending and enrollment.

Marni earned her Master of Public Policy with a concentration in data science from the University of Utah. She has a bachelor’s degree in public health studies from Johns Hopkins University.
